A Night At the Inn,

an evening of education, entertainment and engagement.

When?  Saturday, October 15, 2011, starting at 7:00 pm, and winding up when the crowds fade, around 11:00 pm 
Where?  At Inn from the Cold-Kelowna, 1157 Sutherland Avenue, through the plum-coloured doors on the parking lot side of the building, and on up the stairs
Who?  Any community-minded person, especially you, who would like to know about the struggle of life in the street, how the people who live there get on with life and how Inn from the  Cold-Kelowna, as part of a network of community services, is helping “put homelessness to rest” - through the winter shelter and through individual volunteer support for those newly-housed or at risk   of homelessness.
What?  Sponsor-Overnight-Support

• Sponsor a “Night at the Inn.” Groups can donate the cost of operating the Inn for one or more nights.  The sponsor is featured on our web page for the entire season and plays an integral part in keeping the Inn open.
• Overnight at the shelter. Join a group of participants overnight at the shelter. Individuals gather pledges, and the person with the most pledges will win a luxurious one-night stay at Sparkling Hills Resort.
• Support. Volunteers will find ways to support and be supported by hearing a panel of speakers, tour the shelter, and learning about volunteer opportunities

Speakers are to include Kelowna Mayor Sharon Shepherd, Vancouver’s Sean Spears of Rain City Housing and UBCO School of Social Work Assistant Professor Shirley Chau.

The overnight participant who gathers the most pledges will win an evening in a deluxe room at the world-renowned Sparkling Hills Resort. Other prizes include a gift set from Barefoot Venus, a beautifully framed print from a street artist, and a colour-cut from Meg D’Amour of Mint Hair Studio. Come join us for a night of tempting appies (lovingly prepared by Chef Roger Sleiman of Quails Gate Estate Winery), beverages, prizes, live music and conversation!

Inn from the Cold – Kelowna provided more than 4,000 sleeps last winter and is going into its 13th season.  IFTC depends on private donations and is run mainly by a large core of volunteers – we are a group of community members who have come together to support people experiencing homelessness. Our shelter volunteers contributed a total of 5,079 volunteer hours last season that translates to $91,422 in wages.

Please answer our S-O-S so we can answer the S-O-S of hundreds in the cold nights ahead.
