Overnight Worker for Emergency Shelter

Inn from the Cold – Kelowna is looking for caring, responsible and resourceful individuals with a passion for working with people experiencing homelessness.

Position reports to Shelter Coordinator.

Job Duties:

  • Reviews and updates confidential log and client file system and receives report from overnight staff
  • Ensures there are adequate supplies for the next evening/night/morning shifts, prepares inventories and reports when supplies need to be replenished
  • Adds all other log shift comments that pertain to individual clients from previous day to individual client file system (HIFIS).
  • Prepare bagged lunches for guests who have requested
  • Prepare breakfast items for morning staff and perform various clean up tasks in kitchen
  • Performs housekeeping duties such as laundry collection, blanket storage, recycling, emptying garbage, general cleaning
  • Ensures guests follow shelter guidelines
  • Confirms there are adequate supplies for the next morning
  • Monitors and attends to the well-being and safety of guests
  • Performs other duties as required

Job Requirements:

  • Education, Training and Experience – Grade 12, and Human Services Diploma plus one year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Related experience in a shelter environment an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in handling emergency situations and a full knowledge of conflict resolution, crisis intervention and harm reduction techniques
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C and AED
  • Food Safe Course
  • Computer skills
  • Non-Violent Crisis intervention training an asset
  • Criminal Record Check

Salary: $18.00 per hour

Hours (1 positions available): 11:30pm – 6am

Term:  Immediately – April 1st, 2018 (funding permitted)

  • Prepare and serve breakfast items to guests and  perform various clean up tasks in kitchen
  • Performs housekeeping duties such as laundry collection, blanket storage, recycling, emptying garbage, general cleaning
  • Ensures guests follow shelter guidelines
  • Confirms there are adequate supplies for the next morning
  • Delivers soiled laundry to KGH and delivers clean linens to shelter
  • Monitors and attends to the well-being and safety of guests
  • Performs other duties as required
